Cheryl Ruth Hines was born on September 21, 1965 in Miami Beach, Florida, to Rosemary (Graham) and James Hines, and grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. She went to West Virginia University, Florida State University and graduated from the University of Central Florida. She studied theater and television production, but it was not until she moved to Los Angeles and studied at the Groundlings Theater that she felt she had really learned anything about comedy. Her first teacher there was Lisa Kudrow. She learned to improvise and write comedy sketches. This experience helped her prepare for the role of Larry David's wife on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000). The dialogue on the situation comedy is improvised, so she feels right at home. She still performs at the Groundlings Theater when she has a chance.- Actor

He is an extraordinary entertainer. A quadruple threat. A musical savant.
SARGE is a film, television and stage entertainer who has performed worldwide to adoring audiences. His sidesplitting comedy, natural acting skills, touching vocals and stunning display of dexterity as a pianist have wowed crowds for decades.
But SARGE's road to success has not been smoothly paved.
He was born in Miami Beach, Florida during the Civil Rights Movement to a Jewish mother and black father, but given up for adoption soon after birth. Fortunately, he was quickly adopted by a couple who then raised him in Great Neck, Long Island. SARGE was brought up by his parents in a middle to upper middle class environment, attending the best prep schools in the region. All the while, he lived with some sense of confusion because his adopted parents raised him in a Jewish household without much exposure to his black heritage.
This led to some internal conflict as a child and young adult - feelings he tried to numb with alcohol, drugs and gambling.
He spent part of his young adult life as a homeless man, severely addicted to several vices, and copping drugs at his hangout under the Manhattan Bridge in New York City. With a wealth of talent unrealized, on December 26, 1990, he had an epiphany that would change his life forever. As strange as it may sound, on that day he made a decision to commit himself to sobriety - cold turkey - and never looked back.
SARGE has been clean and sober since then, and he has dedicated himself to assisting others who are facing the same battle by serving as a mentor for many who are in recovery.
SARGE is also a spokesman and strong supporter of the Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) Foundation. In dealing with his son's developmental challenges, Sarge and his family were led to the STAR Center in Denver, CO where it was determined that his son has moderate level Sensory Processing Disorder. SARGE was so inspired by the work done at the center, as well as The Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation, that he wanted to help change the world for all of those affected by the disorder. Knowing that there is a great need for research funding and centers across the country, SARGE will be performing at events to benefit the SPD Foundation.
His artistic talents surfaced on his 6th birthday after his parents took him to see "The Sound of Music" on Broadway. When they returned home from the show, and without any prompting, SARGE sat down at the family piano and began to play songs from the show entirely "by ear". He did this without ever having touched a piano before, and it was at this point that his parents knew they had something special on their hands. At the fresh age of seven, SARGE would entertain in between hands of his grandpa Herman's card games by doing impressions and jokes on cue. It was also at this time that his grandfather took him to shows in the Catskill Mountains, which was the live entertainment capital of New York State at the time.
One night while Don Rickles was killing the crowd, SARGE watched the audience's reaction to the comedian's barbs and scathing monologue. At that moment, he set his sights on becoming a professional comedian one day. Ironically, today he is often compared to Rickles largely due to his rapid fire, off the cuff style of hilarious observational comedy. As has been proven hundreds of times, SARGE has the rare ability to create an uproarious and moving 90-minute comedic performance on the spot by just walking into a room.
SARGE graduated from the all-boys South Kent School in the spring of 1979 where he received an award for his musical talents while also lettering in football. He then attended Boston University's School of Public Communication where he graduated with a concentration in Advertising and Mass Communication. After a short stint as a talent representative, the stage was calling and SARGE enrolled at The Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. From this point forward, he would no longer represent talent - rather, he would "be" the talent. To make ends meet, SARGE wrote, produced and performed for FOX's wildly successful "Best Damn Sports Show Period", as a nationally syndicated radio host for FOX Sports Radio, and worked extensively for ABC Wide World of Sports and CBS Sports.
But sometimes when one is at a crossroads, there has to be an "all-in" proposition. So when "The NFL Today" host Greg Gumbel encouraged him to "be a comedian, you're too funny, too creative and too bright not to go for a comedy career", SARGE moved to his best buddy's pull out sofa in New York to embark on a career in stand-up comedy.
After playing clubs and colleges all over America for three years, SARGE found himself opening for some of the biggest names in music - Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Paul Anka, The Beach Boys, The Four Tops, Taylor Dayne, Donna Summer and Wayne Newton, just to name a few. These high profile gigs enabled SARGE's act to evolve from a comedy appearance to an entertainment performance because he learned to weave his own musical talents into his shows.
SARGE has worked on some of the biggest stages in show business. From the Big Screen with legends like Garry Marshall to Radio City Music Hall to Major League Baseball's All-Star Game to entertaining our nation's troops in Iraq, SARGE's ability to improvise and tailor his show to specific audiences is uncanny.
He is one of the highest energy, multi-talented acts in show business today. Not only a hysterical stand-up comedian, SARGE sings in his own voice and in a dozen others including Harry Connick Jr., Sammy Davis Jr., Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder. Additionally, his dead on impressions of Marv Albert, Mike Tyson, Kermit the Frog and Gilbert Gottfried leave audiences howling and clamoring for more.
On a recent road trip, SARGE performed three different one-hour shows for three nights in a row in front of the same audience at a corporate conference. The crowd was amazed because his material was new for each show.
Quadruple threats who don't dance are hard to find in show business today. With his mix of comedy, singing and piano playing, SARGE is a legitimate quadruple threat and a rare find.- Sherman Bergman was an amateur boxer (21 bouts: 17 wins [17 knockouts] 4 losses) and kick-boxer (65 matches: 56 wins [56 knockouts] 8 losses and 1 draw) who appeared in numerous movies, usually as an extra or in uncredited parts.
Bergman was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. He was the only child of Polish born actress/dancer Anne G. Sterling and war hero/movie extra Hank Bergman. As a child, he appeared on the South Florida television shows, The Skipper Chuck Show, Jumpn Jack, Banjo Billy, and Charlie Baxter's Big Top Circus.
Bergman graduated from Miami Beach Senior High where he studied acting under legendary drama teacher Jay W. Jensen.
Bergman graduated from Miami Dade College, Florida International University, and Nova Southeastern University; he has a Master's Degree.
Bergman was an amateur boxer in Florida and competed in the 1981 South Florida Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in the 147-pound Open Division. In 1983, he retired from amateur boxing competition with a ring record of 17 wins (17 knockouts) and 4 defeats. Reportedly, though unconfirmed, Bergman lost an amateur boxing match to Mickey Rourke. In 2024 he was stopped in the first round of a good-will amateur boxing exhibition in West Africa.
Bergman competed in kickboxing and was defeated by Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Gary Daniels. Bergman's professional kickboxing record from 1980-1996 according to The Star System Computerized World Ratings for Professional Kickboxing was 19-1 (19 Knockouts). In 2009, Bergman retired from kickboxing competition and a Miami Herald newspaper article listed his record as 56-8-0 (56 knockouts).
Bergman was a teacher for Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 30-years.
His students included numerous South American actors and actresses; including Santa Monica Gomez, Rocío Bastidas Conchita Puglisi, Gustavo Cardozo, Haydee Ramírez, and Carlos Augusto Maldonado. - Gustavo Laborie was born in Miami Beach, Florida, USA. Director Steven Lippman's (aka Flip) works have been screened at director tribute programs at the Sound Unseen Film Festival (US); In-Edit Music Film Festival/Barcelona; and the Music Doc Festival/Sweden.
His work included a collaboration with Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Jorge Drexler on a dazzling experimental music short film, 2 segundos de oscuridad (2007), which premiered at the Denver Film Festival. "Oscuridad" follows Mariners & Musicians (2006) with Rosanne Cash, which screened at film festivals worldwide including a special screening at the Sydney Arts Festival. The project is a companion piece to her highly acclaimed album "Black Cadillac."
"Mariners" is another in a continuing series of innovative music short films directed and conceived by Flip including "Life On A String" based on five songs by Laurie Anderson. "String" was an official selection of Cannes/Directors' Fortnight and the Berlin Film Festival. Other festival screenings included Athens, London, Sao Paolo, and Denver. "String," along with others in his series were broadcast on IFC (Independent Film Channel) - an unprecedented showcase for the combination of music and cinema.
A recent joyous detour included conceiving and directing the mini-movie music video for Dolly Parton's Dolly Parton: Better Get to Livin' (2007), featuring special appearances by Amy Sedaris in multiple roles. The video was cited by Newsweek on their "Best of 2007" list. Flip returned for a follow-up collaboration on Ms. Parton's "Jesus & Gravity." Both pieces are available on iTunes Video.
Flip's half-hour conceptual film for David Bowie, "Reality," was also featured on the DualDisc release. The film was hailed by Rolling Stone as a highlight on a list of "five essential Dual Discs you need." "Reality" had its world premiere public screening at the Woodstock Film Festival. Select images from the film were interpolated into the video projections of Bowie's "Reality" tour.
Flip also directed a documentary for Bette Midler "Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook," which interweaves 4 intimate performances by Ms. Midler, interviews with Nicki Lee Foster and Holly Foster Wells (Miss Lee's daughter and granddaughter) and rare never before seen home video footage from the Peggy Lee archive. The program is featured on the special DualDisc edition of Bette Midler's album of the same name.
Flip has also directed several performance videos, documentaries and EPKs for such diverse artists as Chris Thile & Michael Daves, Emmylou Harris, Julia Fordham, The Manhattan Transfer, Duncan Sheik, Janis Siegel, Paula West, Fazil Say, and others. His short profiles on Philip Glass, Harold Pinter, Trisha Brown, and Cirque Plume were broadcast on PBS as part of Live from the Lincoln Center Festival of the Arts.
Flip directed the film version of Lee Nagrin and Basil Twist's acclaimed and singular theater experience Behind the Lid (2014). This feature film blurs the lines between avant-garde cinema and theater documentary.
Flip was the recipient of a Peter S. Reed Foundation grant in recognition of his film directing.
He was chosen for Filmmaker Magazine's annual "25 New Faces of Independent Film", and listed as the highest ranked director.
Before his death, Flip was in pre-production on the feature documentary "Stay All Night." The project would have chronicled the experience of the never-filmed yet legendary Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall concert of April 23rd, 1961 as told by those who were there in the audience. In turn, oral history and witness would have created an intimate mosaic portrait of intersecting lives and "the greatest night in show business history," along with the city and era in which it all took place. "Stay All Night" would have been executive produced by Oscar-winning filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and produced by Mary Wharton.
